Rajasthan Minor Gang-Rape: NCW Demands Action Report in 15 Days

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the alleged gang-rape and trafficking of a 13-year-old girl in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and directed the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to submit a detailed Action Taken Report within 15 days.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered by local police, the minor was allegedly held captive and gang-raped by more than 30 men over a period of five days. The assaults took place across several hotels in the district. Police have arrested a number of hotel owners and managers connected to the case.

The NCW described the incident as reflecting administrative lapses, policing gaps, and inadequate monitoring mechanisms. It called for a crackdown on illegal hotels operating in the area.

On July 8, 2026, the NCW conducted a hearing attended by District Magistrate Amit Yadav, Superintendent of Police Harishankar, Special Investigation Team head Deepak Kumar, and Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Jogendra Kaushik.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed deep concern over the lapses and directed the District Magistrate to identify and take strict enforcement action against all unregistered and unauthorised hotels within 15 days. The Superintendent of Police was instructed to conduct an accountability assessment of local policing mechanisms, including patrol and monitoring systems, that failed to detect the trafficking and repeated abuse.

The commission also noted a delay in presenting the victim before the Child Welfare Committee, which it said violated statutory provisions.
