Rajasthan ATS arrests woman for alleged online links to Jaish-e-Mohammed

Rajasthan’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a 30-year-old woman from Jaipur on Monday, accusing her of engaging in activities deemed ‘anti-national’ online and maintaining contacts with individuals linked to the designated terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The woman, identified as Babita, originally from Sawai Madhopur, was living on the outskirts of Jaipur. According to ATS officials, her arrest followed the detection of what they described as “suspicious” online activity.

ATS Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi stated, “Investigation revealed that she was in touch with certain foreign nationals who work towards hurting India’s sovereignty. Additionally, they were seeking to gain information through her to spread terrorism in India. She was in touch with them and wanted to visit them as well, possibly in Pakistan and in the Middle East.”

The case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), a stringent law used to combat terrorism. Under UAPA, individuals can be detained for extended periods without charges being filed, and bail is difficult to obtain.

At the time of reporting, no legal representative for Babita had commented on the allegations. She is expected to be produced before a court, where she will have the opportunity to contest the charges.

The ATS has not released specific evidence of the alleged online activities or the nature of the communications. The investigation is ongoing.
