Rahul Gandhi Calls for PM Apology Over Alleged Police Action on Students

Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to students and take action against those who allegedly attacked protesters in Bihar. In a post on social media platform X, Mr. Gandhi claimed that AK-47 rifles were fired at students demonstrating against the NEET paper leak.

'The entire system is downright murderous against students. Reports are coming in that AK-47s have been fired at protesting students in Bihar, and hundreds have been arrested and booked under FIRs,' Mr. Gandhi said in Hindi. He accused the central government of being 'dishonest' and incapable of reform, alleging that it had broken its promise not to file FIRs against students.

The protests in Bihar, called by left-wing student organisations, turned violent on July 25, with opposition leaders alleging excessive force by police. Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, specifically claimed that police used AK-47s against protesters in Siwan. Meanwhile, during a march in Delhi on July 20, police used batons and tear gas to disperse students, leaving several injured.

Mr. Gandhi drew parallels between the incidents in different states, saying, 'Pellet guns were used against students in Delhi, and AK-47s in Bihar. Whether it is Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, or Delhi — the pattern is the same everywhere.' He called on the Prime Minister to apologise to the nation's students and take action against those responsible for the alleged attacks.

The central government has not yet responded to these allegations. The NEET paper leak controversy has sparked widespread protests, with students demanding a fair investigation and accountability.
