Rahul Gandhi Alleges UGC-NET Paper Leak, Questions Government Inaction
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) alleged serious irregularities in the UGC-NET examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). In a post on social media platform X, he claimed that a 100-page PDF containing the question paper setting was circulated before the exam, with nearly 90 questions matching the actual Sociology paper.
Mr. Gandhi shared a screenshot of a media report and stated that the PDF was available only with the NTA. He further alleged that the question paper was being sold for ₹2.25 lakh in several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The same network, he claimed, offered to provide question papers for upcoming exams such as CSIR-NET, HTET, and ADA.
The former Congress chief criticised the central government, saying it "continues to turn a blind eye and sleep soundly" despite repeated allegations of irregularities in exams like NEET and NET. He asserted that the years of hard work put in by lakhs of students held no value for the Modi government.
Mr. Gandhi predicted that no investigation would be conducted and that students would not receive justice. He called for a collective voice from students across the country to bring about an "education revolution" in India.
There was no immediate response from the NTA or the Ministry of Education regarding the allegations.
