Pyarelal's Wife Sunila Dies at 78; Composer Performs Last Rites from Wheelchair
Veteran music composer Pyarelal, of the iconic Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, lost his wife Sunila on Monday. She passed away in Mumbai at the age of 78. Pyarelal performed the last rites of his wife at the Santacruz Crematorium later in the day. Due to advanced age and difficulty walking, he remained seated in a wheelchair as he conducted all the rituals.
Sunila Pyarelal's death was announced through a statement by her extended family. Fondly referred to as 'Amma', she was 78 at the time of her demise. The family's statement read: 'Amma lived a life of grace, devotion and quiet strength – a pillar of unconditional love to all who knew her. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing she is finally at peace. Your work here is beautifully finished, Amma. Rest in eternal peace.'
Pyarelal, part of the legendary music composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, composed numerous popular songs in Hindi cinema from the 1960s through the 1990s. The duo's work remains influential, with many timeless hits. Pyarelal's wife Sunila was a private individual who supported her husband's career and was known for her warm presence in family gatherings.
The funeral was attended by close family members and friends. The music fraternity has expressed condolences to Pyarelal and his family.
