Punjab to Introduce AI Curriculum in Government Schools from August, Minister Announces
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on Thursday that an artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum will be introduced in all government schools across the state starting next month. The announcement was made at the 'Bright Minds Punjab 2026' programme held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan in Ludhiana.
Speaking at the event, Bains stated that the government has been working on the AI initiative for the past year and is now ready to roll it out across government schools. While specific details of the curriculum have not yet been released, the minister indicated that the programme aims to equip students with skills relevant to emerging technologies.
The event was attended by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Punjab Education Secretary Sonali Giri, teachers, and students. During the programme, meritorious Class 12 students who scored more than 95 per cent marks in the board examinations were felicitated.
Addressing the gathering, Bains described the students as representing the bright future of Punjab and the country. He expressed confidence that many would go on to serve the nation as civil servants, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals. He also noted that this was the first time the education minister and education secretary had directly interacted with students to seek feedback on the examination system, curriculum, and teaching methods.
The introduction of AI curriculum is part of broader efforts by the Punjab government to modernise school education and prepare students for a technology-driven future. Further announcements regarding the course content and implementation timeline are expected in the coming weeks.
