Punjab Leaders Condemn Removal of Film 'Satluj' from Streaming Platform on Security Grounds

The removal of actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Satluj' from the streaming platform ZEE5 has sparked strong reactions from political parties and Sikh organisations in Punjab. The film was taken down following a government directive citing security concerns, though specific details of the threat have not been publicly disclosed.

Opposition parties in the state, including the Aam Aadmi Party and the Shiromani Akali Dal, have criticised the decision, alleging that it amounts to censorship and an attack on artistic freedom. Leaders argue that the film does not contain any inflammatory content and that the move is politically motivated.

Sikh bodies have also voiced their disapproval, stating that the removal undermines the cultural expression of the community. Some groups have called for a boycott of ZEE5 and demanded that the film be reinstated immediately.

The government has not issued a detailed statement explaining the security grounds behind the decision. Officials have only said that the action was taken to prevent any potential law and order situation.

Diljit Dosanjh, who stars in and produced the film, has not yet commented publicly on the controversy. 'Satluj' was released earlier this month and had been streaming on ZEE5 before being taken down.

The incident has reignited debates over censorship and the role of the state in regulating content on over-the-top platforms. Legal experts suggest that the government's action may be challenged in court if no clear justification is provided.
