Protesters at Jantar Mantar Enter Third Day Over NEET Paper Leak

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continued its sit-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the third consecutive day on Monday, June 22, 2026, demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities and the May 3 NEET paper leak.

The protest began on Saturday afternoon and has continued overnight, with participants staying at the site under police deployment. Some volunteers distributed food and drinking water to those gathered through the night.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced on Sunday that the protest would continue into Monday and appealed to farmer unions and the public to join the movement. The site saw sloganeering, speeches, and cultural performances on Sunday, with supporters playing daflis and singing patriotic songs. Organisers said over 200 people had gathered by evening.

Mr. Dipke has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging a lack of accountability over the examination controversy. He also called for compensation to families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak and cancellation of the examination.

On Sunday, Mr. Dipke urged authorities not to restrict access to the protest site and requested restoration of water supply to public restrooms. Protesters had alleged disruption of basic facilities but later said access to drinking water was restored.

The CJP has stated that the agitation will continue until its demands are addressed. Farmer groups are expected to join the protest during the day, according to organisers. Security arrangements remain in place with police personnel deployed and barricades around the area.

This is the second protest organised by the CJP at Jantar Mantar over alleged paper leaks and demands for government accountability.

Constitutional Tension: Can Election Commission Correct Unlawful Rejection of Nomination Papers?

The rejection of a Rajya Sabha nomination in Madhya Pradesh raises constitutional questions about balancing uninterrupted elections with correcting unlawful exclusion. The Election Commission's powers under Article 324 and the Supreme Court's Article 142 may offer remedies before polling, avoiding delays that render election petitions ineffective.
