Political Firestorm Over Exam Paper Leaks: Punjab and Haryana Governments Trade Accusations

A heated political exchange has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Haryana government over allegations of examination paper leaks. The dispute, largely playing out on social media, highlights ongoing concerns about the integrity of recruitment exams in the region.

Anurag Dhandha, AAP's National Media In-charge, accused the Haryana government of presiding over more than 30 recruitment examinations that were allegedly compromised by paper leaks or serious irregularities during the BJP's tenure. He listed positions including Gram Sachiv, Clerk, Electricity Department Clerk, Excise Inspector, Agriculture Inspector, Conductor, ITI Instructor, Naib Tehsildar, HTET, Police Constable, Patwari, TGT, Dental Surgeon, Steno-typist, UDC, and Junior Draftsman. Critics argue that while exams were cancelled and inquiries ordered, the primary victims were the youths who had spent years preparing for these examinations.

In response, the Haryana BJP dismissed the allegations as political propaganda. The party asserted that the BJP government has provided jobs to lakhs of youths based solely on merit, without the need for recommendations or bribes. The BJP alleged that AAP is attempting to spread misinformation to divert attention from its own governance issues in Punjab, including recruitment, law and order, and the drug menace.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini targeted the Punjab government, referencing statements made by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia. Saini noted that until two days ago, Sisodia had boldly claimed in press conferences that if a paper leak occurred in Punjab, their Education Minister would resign. However, Saini pointed to student protests in Punjab following the leak of a pharmacy exam paper, accusing Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal of remaining silent in their air-conditioned rooms.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema denied the allegations of a paper leak in the state. He clarified that during the Pharmacy Officer exam, a case of cheating involving electronic devices had surfaced, and strict action was taken. Cheema stated that no exam paper had been leaked in Punjab, and the incident was an isolated case of malpractice.

The exchange reflects a broader political rivalry between the two states, with each side accusing the other of failing to protect the interests of students and job seekers. The issue of paper leaks has become a significant political flashpoint across India, with multiple states reporting incidents that undermine public trust in the examination system.
