Police Deploy Water Cannons at Yuva Morcha Protest in Thrissur
Police in Thrissur used water cannons on Wednesday to disperse activists of the Yuva Morcha, the Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing, during a protest march to the Public Service Commission (PSC) Regional Office. The demonstration demanded a government-ordered independent inquiry into alleged irregularities at the PSC, which protesters claim have undermined the prospects of job aspirants.
The march was organised by the Yuva Morcha's Thrissur district committee. Yuva Morcha State president V. Manu Prasad inaugurated the protest, and city district president Manu Pallath presided over the event. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Prasad alleged that the PSC had been misused, eroding the confidence of young job seekers. He demanded the resignation of the PSC chairman and other members facing allegations and called for an independent investigation.
BJP city district president Justin Jacob also addressed the crowd, stating that public trust in the PSC had been severely shaken and emphasised the need for a transparent inquiry to establish the facts.
Tensions escalated when police stopped the march near the PSC office. As protesters attempted to move forward, authorities used water cannons to disperse them. Later, several activists who tried to place a wreath at the entrance of the PSC office were taken into custody and removed from the spot.
Yuva Morcha city district president Manu Pallath stated that the agitation would continue until justice is ensured for job aspirants.
