PMK Founder S. Ramadoss Announces Retirement at 88, Son Anbumani to Take Over

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss has announced his decision to retire from active politics, stating that his son and party president Anbumani Ramadoss will handle party affairs going forward. The announcement was made at a family gathering in Thailapuram on the eve of his 88th birthday, Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Dr. Ramadoss's political career spans decades, marked by significant achievements and challenges, as well as alliances with prominent leaders at both the state and national levels. The decision brings closure to a period of internal discord within the PMK, following a reported falling out between the father and son ahead of recent elections. However, the two reconciled recently, with photographs of their embrace made public.

The retirement may create ripples among Dr. Ramadoss's loyal supporters, including former PMK president G.K. Mani and former MLA R. Arul, who had backed him strongly and opposed Dr. Anbumani. Their reaction to the new development remains uncertain.

Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wished Dr. Ramadoss on his birthday, stating: 'Having led numerous struggles for social justice and served as a powerful voice, I wish that your retirement is filled with contentment and joy.'
