PM Modi’s August Visit Pushes Andhra Government to Fast-Track Bhogapuram Airport Works
Senior Andhra Pradesh government officials have directed the GMR Group to expedite completion of pending works at the Bhogapuram International Airport, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on August 1, 2026. The directive came during a site inspection led by Special Chief Secretary M.T. Krishna Babu, accompanied by District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and Joint Collector S. Sedhu Madhavan on Friday, July 24.
According to state government sources, authorities are working on a war footing to finish pending tasks, particularly on the approach road and other critical infrastructure. With only one week left before the Prime Minister’s visit, the government aims to have all arrangements in place within the next two days.
The visit is expected to draw a large gathering, with over one lakh people likely to attend the public meeting. To manage the crowd, the government plans to arrange approximately 2,000 buses, and an additional 6,000 private vehicles are anticipated on the inaugural day. As a result, the main venue works at the airport premises are being given top priority.
Security arrangements are being closely monitored by Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar and other senior officials. The police department is coordinating with Union government security agencies to ensure foolproof security for the Prime Minister and other VIPs during the event.
The Bhogapuram International Airport, once completed, is expected to boost connectivity and economic development in the region. The visit by Prime Minister Modi underscores the national significance of the project, which has been a key infrastructure initiative for the state government.
