Over ₹1,081 Crore Sanctioned for June Pension Distribution Starting June 24

The Finance department has sanctioned a total of ₹1,081.32 crore for the payment of social security pensions and welfare fund board pensions for the month of June. The distribution of these pensions is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 24, and must be completed by July 3, as per a Finance Department order.

Out of the total sanctioned amount, ₹952.73 crore has been allocated for social security pensions benefiting 51.7 lakh pensioners. Additionally, ₹128.59 crore has been set aside for welfare fund board pensions, which will cover 6.50 lakh pensioners. These payments aim to provide financial support to elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable sections of society.

In a notable provision, the government has also sanctioned ₹24.76 crore under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) share for 8.46 lakh beneficiaries who are eligible for central aid under three social security pension schemes. This central assistance supplements the state's efforts in ensuring timely pension distribution.

The department has emphasised that all pensioners should receive their payments by the July 3 deadline. Beneficiaries are advised to check their account statements or contact local authorities if they do not receive the amount within the stipulated time. The government has also put in place mechanisms to address any discrepancies or delays in the distribution process.

This pension distribution is part of the state's ongoing commitment to social welfare and financial inclusion. By ensuring timely payments, the government aims to alleviate financial stress among pensioners, many of whom rely on these pensions as their primary source of income. The funds have been released from the state exchequer, reflecting the government's prioritisation of social security programmes.

The Finance department's order underscores the importance of efficient disbursal and transparency in the process. Authorities have been directed to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive their due pensions without any hindrance. This move is expected to benefit over 58 lakh pensioners across the state, contributing to their economic stability and well-being.

Monsoon looms for 100 families in Mumbai's Garib Nagar after demolitions

Nearly 100 families in Mumbai's Garib Nagar, whose homes were partially demolished for railway expansion, are awaiting rehabilitation. Administrative delays have left them in damaged structures without water or electricity as the monsoon approaches. Despite a 2021 survey certifying their eligibility, the allotment of alternate homes remains pending due to funding and approval issues.
