OpenAI develops screenless smart speaker with cameras, sensors as AI companion
OpenAI's first consumer hardware device could be a screenless, movable smart speaker that acts as a physical version of ChatGPT, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The report, citing people familiar with the project, states that the device is being developed as an AI companion capable of natural interaction while offering assistance throughout the home. Unlike traditional smart speakers, it will rely on OpenAI's latest AI models to deliver more personalised and proactive experiences.
The speaker is expected to feature built-in cameras and sensors to understand its surroundings and respond intelligently to user requests. It may also use personal information, such as emails and other user data, to build context over time, allowing it to anticipate needs and provide helpful information proactively.
Bloomberg notes that the device is still in early development, and plans could change. OpenAI has not officially commented on the report.
