One Dead, Two Injured as Car Strikes Policemen on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway

A 32-year-old Armed Reserve police constable was killed, and two of his colleagues were injured after a speeding car struck them on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway near Poonamallee on Sunday night, police said.

The deceased constable was identified as Tamilselvan, attached to the Chennai City Armed Reserve. His injured colleagues, Arunkumar (25) and Saravanakumar (26), are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chettipedu near Sriperumbudur. Arunkumar suffered a grievous head injury and is in critical condition, while Saravanakumar sustained a leg fracture.

According to police, Tamilselvan and five other Armed Reserve personnel had travelled to Ranipet to attend the wedding of a colleague and were returning to Chennai by car. Around 11 p.m., they stopped their vehicle by the roadside near an amusement park along the highway. Tamilselvan, Arunkumar, and Saravanakumar had stepped out of the car when a luxury car swerved out of control and hit them.

Tamilselvan died at the spot. The other two were rushed to hospital. Personnel from the Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Wing recovered the body and sent it to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police registered a case and arrested the driver of the car.
