No Change After Re-evaluation? CBSE Allows Class 12 Students to Inspect Answer Books

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a detailed guidance document for Class 12 students who applied for re-evaluation or verification of their answer books. This comes as the board processes requests for review of marks.

Students who applied for verification and received no change in their marks will have the opportunity to physically inspect their answer books at the concerned CBSE Regional Office. The schedule for this inspection will be announced soon.

Revised results after verification and re-evaluation will be made available on DigiLocker at results.digilocker.gov.in. CBSE has updated marksheets for most students, with remaining cases to be completed shortly.

CBSE clarified that re-evaluation and verification are review processes meant to examine specific concerns raised by students. They do not automatically result in a change of marks. Marks may increase, decrease, or remain the same depending on the outcome of the review. Any genuine discrepancy will be reflected in the results after careful examination.

The board stated that mark changes after re-evaluation are a routine part of the process and do not necessarily indicate a problem with the original evaluation. Corrections are made only when the original marking deviates from the prescribed marking scheme.

Marksheets for the main examination were made available on DigiLocker immediately after the declaration of results on May 13, 2026, and were dispatched to candidates and schools. Revised marksheets for those who applied for re-evaluation are being uploaded to DigiLocker in a phased manner.

Any excess or duplicate payment made by students will be refunded to the source account. Additionally, if marks increase as a result of re-evaluation, the fee paid will also be refunded.

CBSE explained the difference between the two processes: Verification of issues observed allows students to flag specific physical or procedural problems in the scanned copy of their answer book — such as missing pages, blurred text, or evaluation against the wrong marking scheme. Re-evaluation allows students to apply for a fresh evaluation of specific questions in a subject, provided they have obtained the scanned copy of their answer book.

To ensure fairness, CBSE stated that the re-evaluation process was undertaken with utmost care. Experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur were involved for continuous monitoring. Each re-evaluated answer book was checked by two evaluators, and officers from CBSE headquarters and regional offices personally supervised the process.
