NIA, Police, CRPF Arrest 10 in Major Crackdown on Manipur Ethnic Violence
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in coordination with the Manipur police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), arrested 10 individuals on Friday (June 19, 2026) for their alleged involvement in ethnic violence in the state.
The arrests were made during searches at multiple locations across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel, and Pherzawl districts, the agency said in a statement.
According to the NIA, investigations revealed that the accused actively participated in various incidents of violence during the ethnic unrest, including attacks on security forces, looting of arms, and bank robberies.
The agency expects the arrests to yield significant information about the planning, execution, and support networks behind the violence. It is also examining possible linkages between incidents and the individuals or groups involved in the conspiracy.
The NIA described the operation as a major step toward supporting the government's efforts to restore peace, security, and normalcy in the state while bringing perpetrators to justice.
The ethnic violence in Manipur began in May 2023, after clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Since then, over 270 people have been killed and more than 62,000 displaced across the state, according to official figures. The unrest has prompted multiple security operations and judicial interventions to address the conflict.
