Nagapattinam Farmers Get ₹4,000 per Acre for Kuruvai Paddy: Special Package Covers 17,660 Acres

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the extension of its Kuruvai special package to 17,660 acres in Nagapattinam district, providing financial assistance to farmers cultivating the short-term paddy crop.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive ₹4,000 per acre for machine planting or direct sowing, applicable for a maximum of two acres, according to an official press release.

Additionally, farmers undertaking kuruvai cultivation can access quality seeds at a 50% subsidy through agricultural extension centres. The government is also offering a 50% subsidy or ₹60 per acre for liquid bio-fertilizers, and a 50% subsidy or ₹147.60 per acre for micro-nutrients. Both these subsidies are capped at five acres per farmer.

To avail the benefits, farmers must register through the Uzhavan App with the required documents. Subsidies will be disbursed after document verification, the release added.

The Kuruvai season, typically from June to September, is crucial for paddy production in the Cauvery delta region. The special package aims to encourage mechanised farming and reduce input costs for small and marginal farmers.
