Telangana to unveil Bharat Future City master plan at global summit in December

The Telangana government will release the master plan for the Bharat Future City, a sprawling 30,000-acre development on the outskirts of Hyderabad, in December. The announcement will coincide with the second edition of the Telangana Rising Global Summit, according to official sources.

The project, conceptualised by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has been entrusted to Singapore-based urban planning firm Surbana Jurong. Experts are currently developing a comprehensive plan that addresses both present and future needs, with a focus on creating a sustainable and investment-friendly urban hub.

Before the master plan is unveiled, the government will inaugurate the office of the Future City Development Authority and the campus of the Young India Skills University on June 10, 2026. The upcoming global summit is expected to be held at the university campus, where construction is progressing rapidly to ensure full functionality by the end of the year.

According to officials, the Chief Minister is keen on dividing the new city into distinct zones to attract investments from Fortune 500 companies. He has directed authorities to ensure that Telangana becomes the first choice for investors, with particular emphasis on the Bharat Future City.

The region has already seen significant investment interest. Amazon Web Services recently decided to establish a data centre there, and the Chief Minister laid its foundation stone, describing the facility as an anchor client that will attract other industries to the area.

Hyderabad has emerged as a preferred destination for global capability centres (GCCs), with over 200 already operating in the city. In response to growing demand, the Chief Minister has called for a dedicated GCC hub within the Bharat Future City. Additionally, a life sciences industry hub is being developed, with a connecting road to the Nagarjunasagar highway nearing completion to provide faster connectivity for industries.

The Bharat Future City project is part of Telangana's broader strategy to position itself as a leading investment destination in India. By integrating cutting-edge infrastructure, skill development, and sector-specific zones, the state aims to create a model for future urban development.

The release of the master plan is expected to provide detailed insights into the city's layout, infrastructure, and investment opportunities, setting the stage for what the government describes as a transformative initiative for the region.

Copper at ₹1,450 a kg: Coimbatore's MSMEs squeezed as prices jump 75% in a year

Copper prices in Coimbatore have risen nearly 75% in a year to about ₹1,450 a kg, squeezing MSMEs that make auto components, pumps and electronic goods. Industry representatives say units have passed on only 10%–15% of the increase because prices are fixed annually or once in two years. Rising costs of steel, zinc and petroleum-based products have added to the pressure on the cluster's competitiveness.
