Mysuru Targets Over 2 Lakh Children in Pulse Polio Drive from June 28
Mysuru district will conduct a Pulse Polio campaign from June 28 to July 1, aiming to vaccinate all children under five years of age against polio. The campaign is part of the National Immunisation Day 2026, with a target of 2,19,521 children.
Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, speaking during a preparatory meeting in Mysuru on Wednesday, urged parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the vaccine. He emphasised that polio vaccination is critical to maintaining India's polio-free status.
On June 28, polio drops will be administered at 1,641 designated vaccination booths across the district. Following that, from June 29 to July 1, health workers will conduct door-to-door visits to vaccinate any child who missed the booth vaccination.
A special four-day campaign will also be held in high-risk areas and transit locations under the theme “Every Drop Counts, Every Child Matters.” The Health Department has prepared to cover 7,78,059 households in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Reddy directed municipal corporations, municipalities, and town councils to appoint dedicated nodal officers and prepare action plans to prevent any decline in vaccination coverage, particularly in urban areas like Mysuru city. He also instructed the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to ensure uninterrupted power supply to primary health centres from June 26 to July 2 to maintain the vaccine cold chain and preserve ice packs.
Mysuru District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy stated that 51 mobile and transit teams, 328 supervisors, and 6,772 vaccination personnel have been deployed for the campaign.
Additionally, polio awareness rallies will be conducted in all schools on June 26 and 27. Parents of children enrolled in preschools, LKG, and UKG classes are being encouraged to get their children vaccinated.
