Jipmer Women and Children’s Hospital Wins Platinum Certification Again
The Women and Children’s Hospital at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) has been awarded the Platinum Certification under the Government of India’s LaQshya (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) for the second consecutive year. This recognition, announced by the institute on Tuesday, underscores the hospital’s consistent excellence in maternal and newborn care.
LaQshya, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aims to improve the quality of care in labour rooms and maternity operation theatres. The programme promotes evidence-based clinical practices, patient safety, infection prevention and control, emergency preparedness, and respectful maternity care. It is part of the government’s broader effort to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity across the country.
Jipmer’s certification followed a rigorous two-tier assessment process. The institute had received national-level certification last year. This year, the renewal assessment was conducted by the State Assessment Team, with Jipmer achieving exceptional scores of 99.5% and 99%. According to an official release, these scores reflect the hospital’s sustained adherence to the highest standards of care for mothers and newborns.
The Women and Children’s Hospital is one of the busiest centres in the region, handling 800 to 900 deliveries every month. As a regional referral centre for high-risk pregnancies, it offers comprehensive multidisciplinary obstetric care. This is supported by dedicated maternal medicine services and continuous capacity building in critical care, enabling the hospital to manage complex cases effectively.
Congratulating the staff, Jipmer Director Vir Singh Negi said the achievement was a reflection of the “unwavering” dedication of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals towards patient care. He added that the certification recognises the team’s hard work and commitment to quality improvement in a demanding clinical environment.
The LaQshya certification serves as an external validation of the hospital’s processes and outcomes. It also highlights the importance of continuous quality improvement in public health facilities. For patients and the community, this recognition offers assurance of safe, respectful, and evidence-based care during one of the most critical phases of life.
As Jipmer continues to serve a large population across Puducherry and neighbouring states, this achievement underscores its role as a leading healthcare institution in the region. The hospital’s consistent performance in the LaQshya programme sets a benchmark for other facilities to follow.
