Mumbai Rains Wreak Havoc: 5 Flights Diverted, Airlines Issue Advisories

Heavy rains in Mumbai and surrounding areas severely disrupted flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday, leading to the diversion of five flights and prompting travel advisories from major airlines.

According to a senior airport official who spoke to Indianexpress.com, the diversions occurred due to poor visibility and adverse weather conditions up to 3:30 pm. The affected flights include two IndiGo services: 6E 594 (Prayagraj–Mumbai) diverted to Hyderabad, and 6E 1340 (Singapore–Mumbai) also diverted to Hyderabad. Akasa Air flight QP 1110 (Delhi–Mumbai) was diverted to Ahmedabad, Oman Air flight WY 203 (Muscat–Mumbai) to Bengaluru, and Air India flight AI 2772 (Kolkata–Mumbai) to Vadodara.

The monsoon rains, which have been particularly heavy this season, also caused waterlogging on roads like Narangi Bypass Road in Virar West, adding to commuter woes. In response, IndiGo issued a travel advisory on X, urging passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. The airline advised allowing extra travel time due to slow-moving traffic and recommended using its website or mobile app for real-time updates.

Other airlines, including SpiceJet, also issued similar advisories, though specific details on additional disruptions were not immediately available. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the monsoon season persists.
