MSME Ministry to Establish 15 Coir Clusters in Andhra Pradesh

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has committed to establishing 15 coir clusters in Andhra Pradesh, according to Coir Board Secretary M. S. Lakshmi Priya. She made the announcement virtually during the inaugural session of the two-day Konaseema Coir Conclave-2026, which concluded in Amalapuram on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Priya said that the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district has significant potential for raw materials for the coir sector, encouraging the setup of coir-based units. The conclave was organized by the Ministry of MSME in collaboration with the Coir Board and the Horticulture Department to explore the potential of the coir sector in the Godavari region.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar announced that an action plan has been prepared to set up 20 coir-based MSME units in the district over the next quarter. He stated that stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, coconut farmers, self-help groups, and farmer producer organizations, will receive hand-holding support with technology, marketing, and branding.

Sameer Krishna, Director of the Coir Development Department, Kerala, shared the potential and experiences of Kerala state in the coir industry, as well as trade and export opportunities for coir products. In the closing session, Joint Collector Waikon Nydia Devi assured skill upgradation and technological support for those keen to set up coir-based units in the district.

Local artisans and young entrepreneurs displayed their coir products during the conclave, showcasing the region's potential in the sector.
