MP Purandeswari Condemns Attack on PG Medical Student in Rajamahendravaram

Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari has condemned the attack on a postgraduate medical student, who was critically injured after two youths allegedly rammed their car into her two-wheeler on August 3. The incident took place on A.V. Appa Rao Road under Prakash Nagar police station limits, according to police.

The victim, Dr. Priyanka, a PG medical student from Hyderabad, was travelling as a pillion rider on a two-wheeler when the accused, identified as N. Daswanth and Andrew Joseph, reportedly rammed their car into the vehicle. The rider and Dr. Priyanka were returning from a cinema hall at the time of the incident.

Dr. Priyanka suffered a critical head injury and was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical. She was pursuing her postgraduation at a medical college in Rajamahendravaram. Her family has been informed, and doctors are monitoring her condition closely.

In a release issued on Thursday, Ms. Purandeswari expressed deep concern over the attack and assured that stern action would be taken against the accused. She called for a thorough investigation and emphasised the need to ensure the safety of students and citizens in the city.

Local residents have urged the police to take swift and strict measures to prevent such incidents. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation.

The attack has highlighted concerns about the safety of women in public spaces, particularly students. Community leaders and citizens have expressed solidarity with Dr. Priyanka and her family, hoping for her speedy recovery. The police have assured that all necessary action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
