Mild 3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Baramulla, No Damage Reported

A mild earthquake of magnitude 3.6 struck Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir early Monday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 2 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometres, the NCS reported on social media platform X.

No damage or casualties have been reported so far, officials said. The region, located in the seismically active Himalayan belt, frequently experiences minor tremors. In February 2026, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake had jolted the same district, with its epicentre in the Pattan area.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents to remain cautious but not panic. Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor and rarely cause structural damage.
