Mehrauli Building Collapse: Delhi Police Enlists IIT-Delhi to Probe Cause

Delhi Police has sought the assistance of IIT-Delhi to conduct a study to determine the exact cause of the collapse of a five-storey building in Saidulajab, near Saket Metro station in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area. The incident, which occurred on the evening of May 30, claimed six lives and left eight others injured.

The building was originally a four-storey structure. At the time of the collapse, the owner and builders were in the process of adding two more floors. One of these additional floors had already been completed. The building housed offices of private companies and a call centre. While the ground, first, and third floors were occupied and operational, the second floor had remained vacant for the past few months.

By involving experts from IIT-Delhi, authorities aim to ascertain the structural failure that led to the tragedy. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any violations of building norms or negligence contributed to the collapse.
