Marathwada University Suspends BSc Admissions in 24 Colleges Over Infrastructure Deficiencies

Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University in Nanded, Maharashtra, has suspended first-year BSc admissions in 24 affiliated colleges following an Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA) that revealed significant infrastructure and faculty shortfalls. The decision, effective for the 2026-27 academic year, aims to uphold educational quality standards.

The audit uncovered that these colleges received an 'F' grade, lacked qualified principals and faculty, and failed to establish necessary laboratories for the BSc programme. Some colleges also did not submit proposals for the mandatory online inspection. The university's circular emphasized that no compromise on higher education quality would be permitted.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Mahajan explained that the process began with surprise visits, leading to a comprehensive audit of 59 colleges. After consultations, 35 colleges rectified their deficiencies, leaving 24 facing the suspension. Many of these are newer institutions operating under conditional affiliation, with the expectation of developing required facilities over time.

Approximately 500 students currently in their second and third years of BSc across these colleges will not be affected by the suspension. The university plans to ensure their practical training by arranging access to laboratories in nearby compliant colleges. Overall, the university affiliates around 150 colleges offering BSc programmes.
