Manipur CM Confident Final Voter List Will Be Inclusive Despite Draft Omissions

Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh on Monday expressed confidence that the final electoral roll, to be published on September 6 following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, would be inclusive and error-free. This comes a day after the Election Commission of India published draft rolls that omitted 1,58,677 names.

The draft rolls, published on Sunday after the completion of the enumeration phase, retained 19.34 lakh voters. Those not included in the draft rolls have the opportunity to file claims and objections from July 5 to August 4. The final voter list will be released on September 6.

Speaking after attending a workshop on SIR Phase II at the BJP state office, the Chief Minister said he was confident that the exercise would result in an accurate and inclusive final roll. The workshop was also attended by state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP A. Sharda Devi, Home Minister K. Govindas Singh, former MP Vinod Sonkar, MLAs, and other senior BJP leaders.

In a social media post, Mr. Singh stated, 'The workshop focused on the draft electoral roll published by the Election Commission of India following the successful completion of the enumeration phase of the SIR, during which over 19.34 lakh enumeration forms were collected.' He added, 'I am confident that the final electoral roll will be accurate and inclusive. The Government of Manipur remains committed to supporting the conduct of free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.'
