Man Who Crossed LoC for Love Returned to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir After Detention

A man from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) who crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri to meet his romantic partner was sent back after a month in Indian custody, authorities said.

Zeeshan Ahmad Mir, a resident of Pankedi village in Uri, crossed the border on May 31 to meet Iram Majeed, a woman he had connected with on Snapchat. On the same day, the Indian Army issued a statement saying an 'intruder' had been apprehended while crossing the LoC in Kashmir’s Uri sector. Sources later clarified that he appeared to have 'no hostile intent'.

During his stay in the Valley, Zeeshan was detained by the Army at Silikote, a fenced border village where access is restricted to soldiers and residents. After a month of questioning and verification, he was escorted back across the LoC and returned to PoK.

The incident highlights the human dimensions of the heavily militarised border, where personal relationships sometimes cross political boundaries. No charges were filed against Zeeshan.
