Man arrested for impersonating Navy officer in ₹18-lakh cheating case

The Palarivattom police have arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of impersonating an Indian Navy officer and cheating a Pathanamthitta native of ₹18 lakh. The accused promised the victim a job in a public sector company in exchange for the money.

The suspect, identified as Bimal Namboothiri, a resident of Adoor in Pathanamthitta district, was apprehended on Thursday (June 25, 2026) from Chengamanad in Aluva. Police recovered Navy uniforms, insignia, walkie-talkies, swords, and plaques from his apartment in Padivattom.

Following his arrest, Namboothiri was produced before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are investigating whether he was involved in similar frauds.
