Lashkar-e-Taiba Terrorist Killed in South Kashmir Encounter After Five-Day Operation
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have killed a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in an encounter at the Saidpora area of South Kashmir, ending a five-day operation that began after surveillance cameras spotted two armed men in a dense orchard.
The body of the deceased, along with arms and ammunition, was recovered from the site. The identity of the killed individual is yet to be confirmed, according to officials.
The operation was launched after security forces received intelligence about the presence of LeT commander Zakir Ganai and his associate Latief Bhat. The two were caught on CCTV footage moving in the Chhanapora locality of Saidpora. The area was cordoned off, and a joint search operation was conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
During the operation, security forces sealed all possible exit routes through the orchard. The Army's specialised counter-insurgency unit, Victor Force, illuminated the area to improve visibility. An exchange of fire occurred as forces closed in on the terrorists, resulting in the death of one individual.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police confirmed the success on social media, posting: “You can run, but you cannot hide.” The operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
