Kidnapped infant reunited with parents within 24 hours in Andhra Pradesh: Police

In a swift operation, the Bapatla district police in Andhra Pradesh successfully rescued a six-month-old boy within 24 hours of his abduction and reunited him with his parents. The infant was taken while sleeping beside his mother on a pavement in Chirala town.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Bapatla Superintendent of Police B. Umamaheswar said that seven special teams were formed under the supervision of Chirala Deputy Superintendent of Police M.D. Moin to trace the child. The police used multiple methods, including analysis of CCTV footage, tracking a motorcycle through the department's 360 CC Cams application, and questioning witnesses and known offenders.

The baby's parents, Katti Subba Rao (36) and Eswaramma, are waste paper collectors from Inakuduru village in Krishna district. They had been sleeping on a pavement near Kothapeta Three Roads Junction in Chirala for four days while working. Around 5 a.m. on July 1, they discovered their child missing. CCTV footage from a nearby shop showed an unidentified man carrying the infant away.

A case was registered under Section 137(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with kidnapping. Investigators examined leads at railway stations and bus stands, and traced the suspect's escape route through CCTV footage.

Police arrested four individuals: Dasari Sanjeev Rao (24), Dasari Srinu alias Tufan (50), Katta Adinarayana (49), and his wife Katta Tirumala (40). According to the investigation, the couple, who had been childless for nearly 25 years, allegedly conspired to obtain a child by paying ₹1 lakh. Sanjeev Rao and Srinu allegedly kidnapped the infant and handed him over to the couple after receiving ₹50,000.

Acting on the suspects' confession, police rescued the child from Jammulapalem village in Tanguturu mandal and restored him safely to his parents. The Superintendent of Police commended all officers and personnel involved in cracking the case.
