Key Accused in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Awaits Bail Decision

A court in Meghalaya on Wednesday reserved its order on the bail plea of Raj Kushwaha, a key accused in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. The case, which has drawn attention for its circumstances, involves Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam and her alleged boyfriend.

Raja Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 last year during his honeymoon with Sonam in Meghalaya. His mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Sonam, Kushwaha, and several others.

The district and sessions court of East Khasi district had granted bail to Sonam on Tuesday. Kushwaha's counsel, P. Yobin, stated that the court has reserved its order on his client's bail plea, with a decision expected soon. "Whatever we had to place, we have placed before the court," Yobin told PTI.

Yobin also mentioned that he has been approached by the families of all four accused persons. "We are waiting for the order in Raj's case first, and very soon bail applications for the remaining three will be filed," he added.

According to police records, Raja Raghuvanshi, a transport businessman from Indore, married Sonam on May 11, 2025, in Indore. The couple departed for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. The autopsy report indicated that Raghuvanshi was struck twice on the head with a sharp object.

Sonam surrendered to police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district on June 8. In September last year, Meghalaya Police submitted a 790-page charge sheet naming eight individuals, including Sonam and Kushwaha, as accused.
