Kerala Revised Budget Adds Over ₹300 Crore, Focus on Education, Industry, and Minority Commission
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Wednesday announced additional allocations in the state's Revised Budget, totaling a little over ₹300 crore. The announcement was made during the concluding session of the three-day general discussion on the budget in the State Legislative Assembly.
Among the key allocations, ₹100 crore has been earmarked for the Industries, IT, Future Technologies and AI departments. The General Education department will receive an additional ₹50 crore. The Excise department has been allocated ₹5 crore for enforcement activities.
In a significant move, the Chief Minister stated that the government will examine the report of the J.B. Koshy Commission, which was appointed to study the educational, economic, and welfare issues of Christian minorities, and will implement its recommendations. This decision underscores the government's commitment to addressing community-specific concerns.
Additionally, ₹1 crore has been set aside for building a memorial for veteran Communist leader and former Minister K.R. Gowri at Aroor. The memorial honours her contributions to the state's political landscape.
Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan informed the House that the Assembly will reconvene next week for discussions on demands for grants and the presentation of the Finance and Appropriation Bills. The revised budget aims to adjust expenditure and revenue estimates for the current fiscal year, reflecting the government's priorities in education, technology, and welfare.
