Kerala Police Book Saudi Returnee Under UAPA for Offensive Post on Pahalgam Victim's Daughter

The Kerala Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against a 26-year-old man who was arrested upon his return from Saudi Arabia for posting an offensive comment on a social media video featuring the daughter of a Keralite victim of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The accused, identified as Muhammed Sanoof of Ayikkarapadi in Malappuram district, was detained at Calicut International Airport on July 4 based on a lookout notice. He was subsequently handed over to the Muttam police in Idukki, where the case was registered.

The case stems from a Facebook comment allegedly made by Sanoof under a video that showed the daughter of N. Ramachandran, a resident of Kochi who was killed in the terror attack in April 2025. The complaint was filed by a local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

During interrogation, the Muttam police reportedly gathered evidence that led to the addition of UAPA charges. The accused's mobile phone is also being examined for further evidence.

Sanoof has been remanded to judicial custody. Police officials said they are likely to seek his custody for further interrogation and evidence collection.
