Karnataka Official Orders Faster Action on Jal Jeevan, Swachh Bharat Projects

The Commissioner of Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, B. Fauzia Taranum, on Saturday directed officials to expedite ongoing projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission while ensuring quality standards. The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office.

Commissioner Taranum emphasised that funds released for the projects must be utilised properly and all works should be completed within the stipulated time frame. She called for frequent inspections by concerned officials to maintain project quality and prevent deterioration. Special attention should be paid to ensuring clean drinking water, proper sanitation, and effective waste management.

The Commissioner also directed that water samples be collected and tested regularly to avoid supplying contaminated water to the public. Taluk Executive Officers and Panchayat Development Officers were instructed to focus on delivering clean drinking water to all households.

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narvade Vinayak Karbari said officials must take greater responsibility in implementing the projects. Given the possibility of water shortages in the coming days, he stressed the need to complete projects at the earliest to ensure continuous water availability.

Earlier in the day, Ms. Taranum visited and inspected various project sites to assess progress firsthand.
