GMR Aero Technic, Canada’s Logic Air Ink MoU to Upgrade Boeing 737NG, ATR, Dash 8 Aircraft
Hyderabad-based GMR Aero Technic and Canada-based Corporation Logic Air Inc. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on aircraft modification, engineering, certification and solutions to address component obsolescence for customers in India and international markets.
The partnership will focus on navigation and operational upgrades for Boeing 737 Next Generation (737NG) aircraft, as well as engine indication system modernisation for ATR and Dash 8 aircraft. The two companies will also explore aircraft modifications that can be incorporated during scheduled maintenance, aircraft redelivery programmes and transition checks.
Other areas of collaboration include cabin electrical and structural modifications, additional modifications for the Dash 8 Q400 fleet, freighter conversions and aircraft transition support. Under the agreement, the companies will explore the validation, adaptation and implementation of eligible Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) and modification data developed by Logic Air for aircraft operators in India and overseas.
The partnership will draw on Logic Air’s expertise in aircraft integration, engineering and certification, including assessments of STC applicability, certification and validation planning, installation design, testing and continued airworthiness support. The collaboration will also focus on component obsolescence solutions and on-wing support, alongside training, installation capabilities and long-term maintenance support in India.
Both companies intend to pursue opportunities with airlines, aircraft lessors and cargo operators, particularly in the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. The MoU aims to combine Logic Air’s engineering and certification expertise with GMR Aero Technic’s MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) infrastructure and execution capabilities to offer integrated solutions that can be delivered efficiently alongside maintenance and transition programmes.
Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager of GMR Aero Technic, said, “By combining Logic Air’s aircraft modification, engineering and certification expertise with GMR Aero Technic’s MRO infrastructure and execution capabilities, we aim to offer integrated solutions that can be delivered efficiently alongside maintenance and transition programs.”
Prashanth Rajanna, executive director of Strategy and Global Business Development, Logic Air Inc., said, “This collaboration also creates a strategic platform for Canadian aerospace engineering and innovation to support the rapidly growing aviation markets in India, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.”
The partnership comes at a time when India’s aviation sector is expanding rapidly, with increasing demand for maintenance and modification services. GMR Aero Technic is a leading MRO provider based at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and is part of the GMR Group, which operates airports in India and abroad. Logic Air Inc. is a Canadian aerospace engineering firm specialising in aircraft integration and certification.
Component obsolescence is a significant challenge for older aircraft, as original parts become unavailable. Solutions such as those proposed under this partnership can extend the life of aircraft and reduce costs for operators. The collaboration also aims to build local capabilities in India for aircraft modification and engineering, reducing the need to send aircraft abroad for such work.
