Karnataka Monsoon Session postponed to August 13 as Cabinet expansion awaited
The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislature will commence on August 13, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced in Bengaluru on Sunday. The session was originally scheduled to begin on August 6 but was delayed due to the pending expansion of the State Cabinet.
Sources indicated that the Cabinet expansion is expected to take place on Wednesday or Thursday, after which new ministers will need time to familiarise themselves with their departments before facing questions in the legislature. This will be the first session after the change in the Chief Minister's post, and the new government is keen that its ministers are well prepared.
Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra stated that the BJP and JD(S) will jointly raise major public issues during the session to hold the Congress government accountable. He said a meeting of BJP MLAs and MLCs will be convened soon, and discussions will be held with the Leader of the Opposition to finalise strategy.
Key issues to be raised include the Bidadi Township Project, the proposed airport in Kanakapura, and the prevailing drought situation, among other matters affecting the public.
