Karnataka: Heavy Rain Triggers Red Alert in Coastal, Malnad Regions; Bengaluru Remains Dry

Parts of Karnataka experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday, while the southwest monsoon continued to elude Bengaluru and its surrounding areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A red alert was declared in several districts in the coastal and Malnad regions, where intense rainfall caused waterlogging and disrupted normal life.

IMD observatory data from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday showed Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district recorded 24.1 mm of rainfall, followed by Kalburgi (17.1 mm), Shivamogga (12 mm), and Belagavi Airport (12.4 mm). In contrast, the three stations in Bengaluru recorded only trace rainfall.

Data from automatic weather stations and rain gauges indicated Agumbe in Shivamogga district received 63 mm, Sirsi in Uttara Kannada 34 mm, and Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru 30 mm.

A yellow alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu districts for July 8. For Bengaluru city and its neighbourhood, the forecast is generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain.
