Karnataka backs Kerala's anti-drug drive Operation Toofan; Southern DGPs to meet on July 10
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has extended his government's full support to Operation Toofan, an anti-narcotics initiative launched by the Kerala government to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the state.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala met Mr. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday to seek Karnataka's cooperation for the operation. During the meeting, Mr. Shivakumar assured that Karnataka would provide complete support, including stricter surveillance along the Kerala-Karnataka border. He also promised to deploy additional police personnel to strengthen inspections and enforcement activities in border areas.
Congratulating the Kerala government on the success of Operation Toofan, Mr. Shivakumar described the mission as a model that could be adopted by other states. As a follow-up, he directed the Karnataka Chief Secretary to initiate necessary actions.
Separately, Mr. Chennithala has convened a meeting of the Directors General of Police (DGPs) of southern states on July 10 at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. The meeting aims to discuss coordinated efforts and further action against drug trafficking across the region.
