Jharkhand CID makes 10th arrest in JSSC-CGL exam irregularities case
The Jharkhand Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested one more person in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination-2023 (JSSC-CGL), bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 10, officials said on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The accused has been identified as Kundan Kumar, a resident of Dumri village in Palamu district. The CID announced his arrest in a statement released on Sunday night. With this, the number of people taken into custody by the state probe agency since August 18 has reached 10.
The CID has made several arrests over the past weeks. On August 30, an accused was arrested from Giridih district. Four successful candidates of the examination, which was held in 2024, were arrested on August 28. Two other accused were arrested on August 27.
Earlier, the CID had arrested the key accused, Abhay Tiwari, on July 22. Tiwari was then posted as a block supply officer in Poriyahat, Godda district. His wife, Sushama Kumari, and brother, Akshay Tiwari, were arrested on August 18. The investigation is being handled by a Special Investigation Team of the CID.
The JSSC-CGL examination is a competitive test conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to graduate-level posts in various departments of the state government. The 2023 edition of the exam was held over two days, September 21 and 22, 2024.
The Jharkhand government had earlier announced the cancellation of several recruitment tests, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, following protests by job aspirants against alleged exam irregularities. However, the Jharkhand High Court stayed the cancellation of certain exams, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, after successful candidates petitioned the court, fearing loss of their jobs.
The latest arrest indicates that the CID is continuing its investigation into the alleged irregularities. The case has drawn attention to the need for greater transparency in recruitment processes conducted for state government jobs.
