Jharkhand BJP delegation meets Amit Shah to discuss student protests, exam irregularities
A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Jharkhand, led by State President Aditya Sahu and Opposition leader Babulal Marandi, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday (August 19, 2026). The meeting focused on multiple issues concerning the state, including the ongoing student protests and alleged irregularities in examinations.
Mr. Marandi later posted on X: “A detailed discussion was held on various important issues related to Jharkhand, and guidance along with necessary directions were received from Home Minister Amit Shah Ji.”
The delegation also included former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda, Raghubar Das, and Champai Soren, along with former State presidents Ravindra Rai and Deepak Prakash, and Organisation General Secretary Karmveer Singh.
According to party sources, the leaders conveyed to Mr. Shah that the BJP fully supports the student agitation in Jharkhand, both on the streets and in the state Assembly, by raising the issue of alleged irregularities. One of the leaders who met the Home Minister said, “We told Amit Shah ji that due to our continuous efforts by putting pressure on the Hemant Soren government, the government agreed to cancel all those examinations which were under suspicion. We also informed him that the State leadership will continue to raise public-related issues, especially those students who are at the receiving end.”
In a related development, Mr. Marandi wrote to Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanding an impartial CBI inquiry into the irregularities surrounding the cancelled and controversial examinations, including the JPSC and JSSC-CGL. He stated that merely cancelling the examinations is not a solution.
“It is essential to expose people behind the scams and identify the individuals involved in alleged extortion and irregularities, followed by strict action against the guilty. Accountability must be ensured for jeopardising the future of lakhs of youths of Jharkhand,” Mr. Marandi said in his letter.
The meeting in Delhi comes at a time when student protests have intensified in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The state government has cancelled several exams following widespread demands for transparency. The BJP, as the principal opposition party, has been raising the issue in the Assembly and on the streets.
Political observers note that the delegation's visit to the Union Home Minister is significant, as it underscores the party's strategy to keep the issue in the national spotlight. However, no official statement was released by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the meeting.
