Japan PM Takaichi to Visit India for 16th Annual Summit, Focus on Trade and Tech
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake her first official visit to India from July 1 to 3 for the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. The visit underscores the deepening bilateral ties between the two nations, with a strong emphasis on economic cooperation and technology partnerships.
According to the MEA, the Japanese Prime Minister will be accompanied by a large business delegation, highlighting the importance of trade and investment in the relationship. All events during the three-day visit will be held in New Delhi. Earlier, Guwahati was considered as a possible venue, but the plan was dropped due to logistical issues.
In a related development, Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, called Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday. Sarma posted on X that the two sides discussed further collaboration in key sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, and entrepreneurship. This indicates that Assam remains a focus area for Japanese investment despite the change in summit venue.
The annual summit is a crucial platform for India and Japan to review and strengthen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Discussions are expected to cover regional security, infrastructure development, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
