Japan PM Sanae Takaichi to Visit India for First Bilateral Summit in Guwahati

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to make her first bilateral visit to India from July 1 to 3, with sources indicating that the venue for the summit is likely to be Guwahati, Assam.

This visit marks Takaichi's first bilateral trip to India since she assumed office in October last year. The two leaders previously met on the sidelines of the G7 leaders' summit in France last week, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the interaction as a 'great interaction' and emphasised the commitment to deepen bilateral ties.

Modi stated that India and Japan will continue to strengthen cooperation in diverse sectors, with a priority on trade and investment. The upcoming summit is expected to further cement the strategic partnership between the two nations, focusing on economic collaboration, infrastructure development, and regional security.

Guwahati, the largest city in Assam, has emerged as a key location for high-level diplomatic engagements, reflecting India's focus on the Northeast region's integration with international partnerships. The choice of venue underscores the significance of the Act East Policy, which aims to enhance connectivity and cooperation with East and Southeast Asian countries.

India and Japan share a comprehensive strategic partnership, underpinned by shared democratic values, economic complementarities, and convergent interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The upcoming summit is anticipated to advance collaboration in areas such as digital technology, clean energy, and defence.
