The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has cleared the CE20 cryogenic engine for use in the next LVM-3 mission, marking another milestone for India's space programme. The engine, developed entirely within the country, has been a key component in several successful LVM-3 flights and is now qualified for the ambitious Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission.

The CE20 is a powerful cryogenic engine that uses liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen as propellants. It has been instrumental in delivering heavy payloads into orbit, including communication satellites and the Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission. ISRO officials confirmed that the engine has passed all necessary tests and is ready for integration into the next LVM-3 vehicle.

One of the most significant achievements of the CE20 engine is its role in India's human spaceflight programme. The engine's qualification for Gaganyaan means that it meets the stringent reliability and safety standards required for carrying astronauts. Additionally, the indigenous development of the CE20 underscores India's self-reliance in critical space technology, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

The LVM-3, formerly known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk III), is ISRO's heaviest launch vehicle.
