ISRO Bengaluru Headquarters Evacuated After Hoax Bomb Threat via Email
The Bengaluru headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was temporarily evacuated on Tuesday afternoon following a bomb threat received via email. Security personnel and police conducted a thorough search of the premises, later declaring the threat a hoax.
The email, which claimed that explosives had been planted at the high-security establishment, was received by ISRO staff shortly after lunch. Staff immediately alerted the local police, who responded with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS). The campus was evacuated as a precautionary measure while a detailed anti-sabotage check was carried out.
After an exhaustive search of the building and surrounding areas, no suspicious or explosive materials were found. The Sanjay Nagar police have registered a case and are working to trace the sender of the email. ISRO officials confirmed that the threat is being taken seriously and the investigation is ongoing.
In a statement, ISRO said: “ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru was evacuated on July 2 after a bomb threat email. Police and bomb disposal squads searched the premises. No suspicious object found so far. Officials say the probe is on to trace the email. Threat being taken seriously.”
Such incidents, while often hoaxes, are treated with utmost seriousness due to the sensitive nature of ISRO's work. The organisation continues its regular operations after the all-clear was given.
