VP Radhakrishnan: Student death over drugs 'very painful', calls on youth to shun menace

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the death of a college student in Tamil Nadu, who was killed after he reportedly informed authorities about the prevalence of drugs in his area. Speaking at the 22nd convocation of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) in Kattankulathur, the Vice-President said the incident was “very painful” and that he felt as if he had lost someone from his own family.

Without naming the student or providing specific details, the Vice-President said, “It was very painful for me to read about the death of a college student in Tamil Nadu, who was killed after he passed on information about prevalence of drugs. I felt as if I had lost someone in my family.” His remarks came during an address to graduating students, where he emphasised the need to stay away from drugs and substance abuse.

“I also urge all of you to always stay away from the menace of drugs and all forms of substances that abuse. We should not get controlled by an external force rather our mind should get controlled by ourselves,” he said, underscoring the importance of self-discipline and inner strength in resisting peer pressure and external influences.
