Iran-U.S. talks planned in Switzerland after ceasefire agreement signing
The Swiss government announced on Thursday that initial talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Buergenstock mountaintop resort in Switzerland. This follows the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington, according to a statement from the Swiss foreign ministry.
The statement said: “As things stand, the plan is still for the U.S. and Iran, along with mediators Pakistan and Qatar and other involved countries, to meet tomorrow at Buergenstock for initial negotiations about implementing the agreement.”
The Swiss foreign ministry added that no further information is currently available regarding the schedule and details of this meeting. The talks mark a significant step following the ceasefire agreement, which aims to de-escalate tensions between the two nations.
Pakistan and Qatar have served as mediators in the process, facilitating dialogue between the parties. The involvement of multiple countries underscores the importance of the negotiations for regional stability.
The Swiss government has historically provided a neutral venue for diplomatic discussions. Buergenstock, a resort overlooking Lake Lucerne, has hosted previous high-level talks. The meeting is expected to focus on the implementation steps of the ceasefire agreement.
