India’s Modi Greets Trump, US on 250th Independence Anniversary, Calls Friendship a ‘Force for Global Good’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended warm congratulations to US President Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence. In a post on social media platform X, Modi described the India-US relationship as more than a strategic partnership, rooted in shared democratic values and the rule of law.

“On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, I extend my warmest congratulations to President Trump and the people of the United States on the historic 250th anniversary of your Independence,” Modi wrote. He added that the two nations’ “shared belief in democracy and the rule of law, and the limitless potential of our people make our friendship a force for global good.”

The 250th anniversary marks a significant milestone for the United States, which declared independence from Britain on July 4, 1776. Celebrations in the US have included events across the country, with President Trump participating in ceremonies in Washington, D.C.

India and the US have deepened ties over the past two decades, with cooperation spanning defence, trade, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Modi’s message reflects the continuity of diplomatic goodwill between the two democracies.

Foreign policy analysts noted that Modi’s personal rapport with Trump has been a feature of their interactions, but the statement emphasizes institutional ties rather than personal dynamics. The Indian government has consistently highlighted shared values as the foundation of the partnership.

The greeting also comes amid ongoing trade discussions and strategic alignment on issues such as the Indo-Pacific region. Both nations are members of the Quad, along with Japan and Australia, and collaborate on maritime security and counter-terrorism.

Modi’s message was widely shared on social media, with many users praising the sentiment. The US Embassy in India also acknowledged the greeting, stating that the bond between the world’s two largest democracies continues to strengthen.
