Indian LPG Carrier Crosses Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

An Indian-flagged LPG carrier, BW Loyalty, successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, according to maritime tracking data from marinetraffic.com. The vessel, carrying approximately 47,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), took the northern route through Iranian waters.

BW Loyalty was one of four Indian-flagged ships that had sought permission from both Iran and Oman to navigate the strategic waterway, official sources confirmed. The transit comes amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of war in the Persian Gulf.

The ship was among eight Indian-flagged LPG carriers stranded in the Persian Gulf when hostilities began. Since then, seven of these vessels have successfully departed the region. BW Loyalty had been in drydock in Dubai for routine maintenance and repairs before loading its LPG cargo in Qatar and proceeding on its journey.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, with about 20% of the world's oil and gas passing through it. The safe passage of BW Loyalty is seen as a positive development for energy security and maritime freedom of navigation.
